Brandt Warns of Quantum Hack Risks to Bitcoin Security
Veteran trader Peter Brandt expressed concerns about the potential risks of quantum computing to Bitcoin's core architecture. He stated that if a successful hack were to occur, he would consider 'shorting everything in the world' on Bitcoin.
Brandt believes that a quantum computer could potentially break the cryptography protecting the network, undermining one of its fundamental security assumptions. However, he also noted that experts he trusts believe the network cannot be hacked and that it could be patched if it were.
Despite his concerns, Brandt still sees a 'good shot' that Bitcoin has already bottomed in late June and is moving upwards. He hopes for a 'tradable low' near $65,000 to $66,000 in early October, which would clear out traders who 'piled in' on the assumption of an immediate upswing.
Brandt expects Bitcoin to reach around $250,000 by early 2029 and sees a cycle top between $300,000 and $600,000 later that year. He ties this timing to the next halving in April 2028, when miners' block rewards are cut in half.
