Brooklyn Man Sentenced to Four to Twelve Years for Crypto Scam

A Brooklyn man who stole nearly $16 million in cryptocurrency from Coinbase users nationwide has been sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.

Ronald Spektor, 23, of Sheepshead Bay, targeted around 100 Coinbase users while operating under the handle @lolimfeelingevil. He posed as a representative and convinced victims that their accounts were at risk of being hacked, then asked them to transfer their cryptocurrency to what they thought were secure wallets.

The 'wallets' were actually controlled by Spektor, who laundered the funds after draining the accounts. Some victims lost $1 million or more in the scam.
