BTC Surges Past $80,000 Amid Strong Institutional Demand
Bitcoin's recent breakout above $80,000 has been backed by strong institutional and ETF demand, according to analysts. K33 notes that this is the largest daily ETP inflow since November 2024, while Nexo cites nearly $1 billion in spot BTC ETFs.
The regulatory backdrop has also provided a tailwind, with Stephen Coltman, macro head at 21shares, emphasizing the Securities and Exchange Commission's Innovation Exemption and the CFTC's post-Clarity Act rulemaking activity as evidence that crypto-related regulatory progress is continuing. K33 argues that the resolution of uncertainty around the Fed decision and Clarity Act vote helped unlock the breakout.
However, analysts remain divided over whether the rally can hold into a durable advance. Nexo is more cautious, noting that volume has thinned, market breadth has narrowed, and derivatives positioning is less convincing. Fundstrat's Tom Lee, on the other hand, believes that a crypto bull market has begun, driven by a multitude of factors including the rotation from AI back to crypto.
The immediate resistance zone for BTC is $87,000-$88,000, with $90,000 the next major psychological hurdle. Failure to break higher could encourage some profit-taking after the rapid rally, according to Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com.
