Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has disputed predictions that artificial intelligence (AI) could send Bitcoin's price plummeting more than 50% within two years. Liron Shapira, an investor and AI risk commentator, assigned a 50% probability to this scenario, but Buterin disagreed.

In response to Shapira's forecast, Buterin stated on social media that he takes the opposite side of the prediction. He argued that most AI-related threats can be resolved without altering the network's core social consensus.

Buterin distinguished between two layers of Bitcoin security: operational vulnerabilities and a fundamental failure in which the cryptographic foundation itself collapses. He assessed the probability of the latter as 'tiny.'

AI's primary target is not Proof-of-Work, but peripheral infrastructure such as wallets, exchanges, or individual developers being compromised. These incidents can undermine trust and cause significant losses.
