Buterin Doubles Down on Ethereum Privacy Efforts

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is doubling down on privacy efforts for the blockchain network. In an X post, he wrote 'It's only dead if you give up,' adding that he's not giving up on privacy. This statement comes after Ethereum prioritized technical work on wallets, transaction inclusion, private blockchain queries, and shielded transfers.

Buterin views Ethereum as part of a 'sanctuary technologies' ecosystem, aimed at enabling people to transact and communicate without government pressure. He believes that privacy and individual autonomy are key pillars in this vision. The Canadian co-founder outlined four core properties for Ethereum: censorship resistance, open-source infrastructure, privacy, and security.

Ethereum's current roadmap focuses on enhancing privacy through private reads, writes, and proving. FOCIL is a proposed piece of this puzzle, meant to make it harder for powerful block builders to refuse transactions associated with privacy protocols. Researchers are also considering a protocol-level shielded pool for ETH and ERC-20 transfers.
