Buterin Sounds Alarm on Blockchain Privacy Risks in Era of Advanced AI

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has sounded the alarm on blockchain privacy risks in the face of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis tools.

In a recent keynote address at the 12th Global Blockchain Summit, Buterin emphasized that simply hiding users' real names is no longer sufficient to protect their on-chain activity. He pointed out that modern cryptography can now control not only who can send assets but also who can access specific information.

The Ethereum co-founder drew parallels with social media platforms, likening public blockchains to 'Twitter for your bank account', where a wallet address may not directly reveal a person's name but patterns in its activity can provide additional information about its owner or connections to other addresses.

Buterin explained that the issue is becoming more pressing as people want to use blockchain systems for more than just sending and receiving payments. With faster networks and applications with more features on the horizon, blockchain systems will have to handle more types of activity and information.
