Capital Group Boosts Strategy Stake with $366 Million Investment
Capital Group’s Growth ETF has increased its stake in Strategy Inc. (formerly MicroStrategy) by purchasing 535,304 additional shares. This brings the fund’s total holdings to 2.19 million shares, valued between $336 million and $366 million, depending on the stock price at the time of the transaction. Despite the substantial investment, this represents a small fraction of Capital Group’s $3.3 trillion in assets under management.
The purchase was made through the Capital Group Growth ETF (CGGR) in mid-2026. This isn’t the only Capital Group fund investing in Strategy; in April 2026, another fund, ANCFX, acquired 4.32 million shares for approximately $747 million, boosting its total holding to 10.33 million shares, valued at around $1.78 billion.
Strategy has transformed from a traditional software company into a vehicle for Bitcoin exposure, holding hundreds of thousands of coins on its balance sheet. The company funds these purchases through equity issuance and convertible notes, which appeal to traditional fund managers seeking regulated Bitcoin exposure without the complexities of direct custody.
Institutional ownership of Strategy stood at about 61.55% as of June 30, 2026, with Capital International Investors being one of the largest holders. While institutional buying has historically coincided with positive stock movement, Strategy’s share price remains heavily influenced by Bitcoin’s performance. Investors should be aware that the shares can amplify both gains and losses due to the company’s funding structure.
