Cardano Marks Nine Years Since Genesis Block Creation

Cardano is celebrating its ninth anniversary after the creation of its genesis block on September 23, 2017. The mainnet launched six days later, introducing ADA and marking the beginning of the network's journey as a public blockchain.

The Cardano Foundation highlighted crucial milestones achieved by the network since its inception. These include the establishment of 2,890 stake pools, processing over 123 million transactions, and activating 11 major upgrades. The upgrades have improved application performance, introduced smart contract functionality, and enabled on-chain governance.

Everstake explained Cardano's developments over the past nine years and what's next for the network. They highlighted that Cardano continues to power its scaling roadmap with Hydra as its Layer 2 scaling solution and Leios and Peras being developed for the next level of Layer 1 performance.
