Cardano's Descent into Irrelevance
Cardano (ADA) has been struggling to recover from its all-time high in 2021, plummeting more than 90% and no longer ranking among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap. Over the past five years, Cardano has failed to become a leader in decentralized finance (DeFi), and its current performance is underwhelming compared to its peers.
As of this year, Cardano's market cap stands at $9 billion, down from $66 billion just five years ago. Its 27% decline in value is even more severe than Dogecoin's 20% drop. This lackluster performance has investors growing increasingly concerned about Cardano's future.
The catalyst for Cardano's underperformance lies in its failure to adapt and innovate in the DeFi space, despite acquiring smart contract functionality in 2021. Its current attempt to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) as a new growth driver may not be enough to save it from its downward spiral.
