Cardano's Stablecoin Base Fuels RealFi's Credit Push
Cardano's founder Charles Hoskinson has invested millions in RealFi, a platform aiming to 'bank the unbanked' by offering real-world credit behind a dollar-token system. On October 1, RealFi launched USDrf and its yield-bearing counterpart, sUSDrf, on Cardano, expanding the network's stablecoin base.
Cardano's DeFi footprint has shrunk by more than 50% over the past year, down from $150 million in May to $67 million currently. However, the network's stablecoin base is approaching an all-time high near $70 million, indicating a growing demand for dollar-linked tokens.
RealFi connects stablecoin capital to a portfolio that includes direct loans, private-credit funds, and other assets, offering variable returns generated from the underlying portfolio. Eligible retail users can acquire USDrf and stake it for sUSDrf, but direct minting and redemption with the issuer are reserved for verified institutional partners.
