Cathie Wood on Bitcoin Security: AI and Quantum Computing Changes Everything

ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood has shared her thoughts on the potential impact of recent research in artificial intelligence and quantum computing on Bitcoin's cryptographic systems. Speaking on ARK Invest’s FYI podcast, Wood discussed how AI is accelerating quantum research and how Bitcoin developers are using similar technology to enhance network security.

Wood noted that one developer featured in the podcast has stated that recent findings from AI-powered security efforts are being reviewed by Bitcoin Core developers, with some fixes already implemented into Bitcoin Core. The discussion also touched on what might happen if the Bitcoins attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto were to move, which could be caused by various factors including the owner switching to more secure signature systems or attackers gaining access to private keys.

While investors in prediction markets are pricing in only about a 3% chance that the Bitcoins attributed to Satoshi will move before the end of 2026, Wood has said her concerns have somewhat diminished as research in AI and quantum computing advances. The movement of large, long-inactive Bitcoin wallets could be unsettling for investors, but it remains unclear what would happen if such an event occurred.
