Coinbase has taken another major step in its expansion into financial market infrastructure. The company's derivatives clearing organization, Coinbase Clearing LLC, received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Monday.

The registration enables Coinbase to clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps. However, it does not permit the clearing of leveraged products.

Coinbase's general counsel, Molly Abraham, noted that the approval completes the company's end-to-end derivatives infrastructure. This allows Coinbase to bring more regulated derivatives products to market with native USDC collateral and 24/7 settlement.
