CBN Sandbox Touted as Game-Changer for Nigeria's Crypto Market

Share

Chimgozirim Nwokoma, Acting Managing Editor at Condia, believes that the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) regulatory sandbox for virtual asset providers can bring much-needed clarity to Nigeria's cryptocurrency and stablecoin market.

Nwokoma spoke with ARISE NEWS, stating that the initiative will provide a controlled environment for the CBN to engage with virtual asset businesses and observe their operations more closely.

This, he said, would help the regulator better understand the risks and opportunities associated with these businesses before developing future regulations. The goal is to bring greater clarity and stronger oversight to the market, which has been plagued by ambiguity in the past.

Nwokoma emphasized that regulatory approval alone will not guarantee investment, as investors will still consider the commercial viability and potential returns of virtual asset businesses.
