Centrifuge finds only 29 percent of tokenized assets verify onchain
Tokenization was meant to revolutionize finance by bringing transparency through blockchain technology. However, a recent report from Centrifuge reveals that only 29.2% of tokenized assets have verifiable onchain holdings data, leaving the majority of the market reliant on offchain reports.
Centrifuge, a leader in bringing real-world assets onchain, recently launched its V3.2 product update on October 5, 2026. The update introduces the Onchain Portfolio Manager, which uses smart contracts for cross-chain accounting, net asset value (NAV) calculations, and trade execution. This shift moves management of multi-asset vaults, including treasuries and equities, from offchain spreadsheets to onchain smart contracts.
The platform is also integrating Proof of Asset oracles with Chronicle Labs to provide cryptographically verifiable attestations of asset holdings and values. As of early October 2026, the tokenized real-world asset market was valued between $34 billion and $39 billion, with Centrifuge’s total value locked (TVL) estimated between $1 billion and $1.8 billion.
Centrifuge emphasizes the importance of verifiable holdings data for institutional adoption, risk management, and DeFi integration. While oracle-based attestations narrow the trust model, they do not eliminate it entirely. Additionally, moving NAV calculations into smart contracts introduces new risks, such as code bugs and automated portfolio logic errors.
