CEX Volumes Surge to $37B as Altcoin Demand Remains Strong
Cryptocurrency trading volumes on centralized exchanges have more than doubled in five days, reaching over $37 billion. This significant increase marks a recovery from annual lows and surpasses the $105 billion peak seen after the large liquidations on October 10th.
Total trading volume in August has also reflected this market activity, with approximately $490 billion worth of transactions taking place on centralized exchanges in the first part of the month. In July, this figure was $670 billion.
Analysts point out that spot CEX volumes are now competing with spot crypto ETFs, a shift from previous periods where a large portion of investor demand was met directly through centralized exchanges. The proliferation of ETF products is shifting some capital towards traditional financial channels for major assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Despite this trend, demand in the altcoin market is expected to remain largely on CEX platforms due to advantages such as fast listing, a wide range of trading pairs, and advanced trading tools for small market cap tokens.
