CFTC Chairman Warns of Regulatory Vacuum, Vows Action on CLARITY Act
Mike Selig, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), emphasized that the US has entered new financial frontiers driven by blockchain, AI, and prediction markets. He stated at the CFTC's first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting that these innovations are inevitable.
Selig wants America to take a lead in writing the rules for these emerging technologies. He warned that if the country doesn't take action, other countries might take the lead instead. 'We've crossed the Rubicon and are standing at a new frontier of finance,' he said.
Regarding the CLARITY Act, Selig stated that the CFTC will move swiftly to propose rules for cryptocurrency markets if Democrats obstruct the bill. He mentioned that President Trump's call to codify a future-proof digital asset market structure would be followed by his agency. 'We will heed President Trump's call,' he said.
