Chainlink Connects Banks to Swift Blockchain Ledger for Seamless Tokenized Payments
Chainlink has made it possible for financial institutions to integrate their systems and key signing infrastructure with the Swift blockchain ledger, thanks to its Creative Runtime Environment (CRE). This integration allows banks to adopt 24/7 tokenized payment workflows without altering their existing security governance and approval processes. By using Chainlink's CRE, banks can retain control over their transaction authorization keys while still leveraging the benefits of tokenized payments.
The Swift ledger facilitates cross-bank fund transfers among participating institutions through tokenized deposits, covering overnight and weekend periods. The final settlement is still completed through existing mechanisms such as real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems. This connection to over 11,500 financial institutions across more than 200 global markets was announced at Sibos 2025.
Chainlink's CRE provides a secure and efficient way for financial institutions to connect with the Swift ledger, enabling them to offer seamless and uninterrupted payment services to their customers. By leveraging tokenized payments, banks can reduce the time and costs associated with traditional payment methods.
