Chainlink has launched a 24/7 pricing service for tokenized assets, expanding its previous 24/5 equity-data product to include weekends and holidays. The new service provides reference prices for equities, commodities, and other real-world assets outside traditional exchange hours. Lending protocol Aave is the first partner to adopt these feeds for valuing eligible collateral.

The service combines data from multiple perpetual-futures venues, applying stale data filtering and outlier controls to generate off-hours references. This approach avoids treating closed stock exchanges as if they were still publishing live prices. Chainlink emphasized that while the service is now live, its long-term significance will depend on commercial adoption, technical validation, and regulatory clearance.

Market participants are evaluating what Chainlink’s round-the-clock pricing establishes today and what remains uncertain. Continuous reference data can support extended trading sessions, lending, and prediction markets. However, the reliability of financial risk engines using Saturday prices derived from instruments with different liquidity and economics than the underlying asset is still under scrutiny.

Investors need to verify actual asset issuance, redemption possibilities, and responsibility for discrepancies. Sustainable usage, transparent reporting, and clear risk explanations will be key indicators of success. Short-term token price movements may not reflect the product’s long-term viability.

Risks include mismatches between token liquidity and reference pricing, as oracle feeds do not guarantee redeemable cash-market prices. Protocols must implement conservative collateral factors, circuit breakers, and governance for unusual market conditions. Legal rights, reliable valuation, and clear settlement processes are essential for making tokenized representations useful.
