Chelsea Settles £47 Million Payment Scandal with Suspended Transfer Ban
Chelsea Football Club has escaped significant repercussions after settling charges related to undisclosed payments exceeding £47 million made during the Roman Abramovich ownership era. The club was fined £10.75 million and received a one-year transfer ban, although the ban is suspended for two years. This means Chelsea can continue to buy players unless it makes another mistake within the next 24 months.
The breaches involved unreported payments totaling more than £47 million, which could have led to points deductions affecting the club's competitive position. However, none of this seemed to impact the trading activity of its fan token, CFCT, which operates on the Chiliz blockchain via the Socios.com platform.
CFCT gives holders limited governance rights, such as voting on kit designs and other club decisions. The Chiliz cryptocurrency underpinning the fan token ecosystem saw no significant movement in response to the settlement. Instead, trading activity increased when new manager Xabi Alonso took charge of his first match.
