China Business Journal Scammers Demand Bitcoin Ransom Payments
Fraudsters have been posing as reporters and representatives of the China Business Journal to demand ransom payments in Bitcoin. According to official statements, the scammers are using encrypted communication services, specifically Proton Mail addresses, to reach out to corporate executives and targeted businesses.
The fraudsters falsely claim that investigative journalists have uncovered damaging information about the target company through undercover investigations. To prevent this purported 'negative investigative report' from being published or broadcasted to the public, the extortionists demand a designated ransom paid in Bitcoin (BTC).
The China Business Journal has issued formal warnings that the organization has zero connection to the extortion attempts. Management at the publication confirmed that the messages are entirely unauthorized and constitute criminal fraud. Legal teams are currently gathering digital evidence, tracking communication footprints, and preparing both civil and criminal actions against the perpetrators.
