China Cracks Down on Crypto Anonymity: Blockchain Records Expose Users

Share

China's Ministry of State Security has issued a statement warning that cryptocurrencies do not offer anonymity and can be traced by authorities. The ministry claims that blockchain records can help track transactions and identify users, undermining the idea that crypto is completely untraceable.

The statement highlights that wallet addresses may initially conceal identities, but this does not provide permanent anonymity. Blockchain transactions are permanently recorded on public ledgers and cannot be deleted or changed after being confirmed.

Authorities can use on-chain analysis and digital information to trace movements between wallets. Interactions with trading platforms and payment interfaces can leave additional digital traces, including device and IP information.
