China's CXMT Listing Breaks Records, Crypto Markets Play Key Role in Price Discovery
China's largest IPO since 2010 was that of ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which raised $8.6 billion in its Shanghai STAR Market listing, exceeding expectations and sparking global interest.
The company's valuation surpassed major banks, and the use of crypto perpetual futures contracts on Hyperliquid to trade pre-IPO stocks has raised regulatory questions and highlighted jurisdictional grey zones.
The CXMT contract on Hyperliquid peaked near $8.64, implying an implied valuation around $500 billion, before settling back to roughly $6.35 in the days before the listing, suggesting about $425 billion.
While some may view this as inaccurate, experts argue that the contract was not forecasting the offer price but rather the market's verdict, and it landed close to the actual opening valuation of around $460 billion.
