Cipher Digital Leads AI Infrastructure Charge with $9B Lease Extension
Cipher Digital's stock jumped 4% to $18.74 after extending its lease at the Barber Lake site in Texas, providing a longer revenue runway for the company's AI infrastructure deals.
The agreement with Fluidstack covers the full 300-megawatt site and includes potential extensions that could bring in up to $9 billion in revenue over 20 years. This deal adds to Cipher Digital's shift away from Bitcoin mining and toward high-performance computing infrastructure, a trend being driven by investors focusing on long-term power access and contracted revenue.
The AI infrastructure trade is gaining momentum as companies like TeraWulf and Applied Digital also seek to monetize their large power positions through AI and high-performance computing customers. UBS Group initiated coverage of five AI data-center companies, including Cipher Digital, TeraWulf, and Applied Digital, assigning Buy ratings across the group.
The UBS report cited constrained compute supply and access to power as key advantages for these companies transitioning from cryptocurrency mining into AI infrastructure. However, execution risks remain a concern, with construction schedules, grid connections, financing requirements, and customer delivery milestones still determining when contracted capacity translates into actual operating revenue.
