Cipher Digital's $9B Lease Extension Raises Valuation Questions
Cipher Digital (CIFR) recently announced that it has extended its lease at the Barber Lake data center in Texas to 20 years, significantly increasing its total contracted revenue to more than $9 billion. This move is seen as a major development for Cipher Digital, as it secures a long-term commitment from an AI lab for an additional 10 years.
The news arrived amidst a mixed price backdrop, with the share price up 1.62% over the past day but down 11.44% over 30 days and 27.70% over 90 days. Despite this short-term volatility, long-term holders have seen strong gains, with a 1-year total shareholder return of 6.87% and a 3-year total shareholder return of 51%.
Industry experts believe that Cipher Digital's strategy to develop infrastructure for both Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing (HPC) aligns with the growing demand for large-scale, flexible, and energy-rich data center sites driven by AI adoption. This creates potential upside for revenue diversification and earnings stability.
