Circle Acquires IBM Blockchain Patents Amid Quantum Computing Plans
IBM's blockchain patent portfolio has been acquired by Circle, a USDC issuer. The deal covers more than 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents. This is according to an announcement made by Circle on July 27.
The acquisition aims to bolster Circle's position in the deep blockchain space, which IBM has been actively developing. However, this move does not seem to be directly related to IBM's plans for quantum computing, as stated by its CEO, who expects quantum computing to start boosting earnings by 2028.
