Circle Freezes Another $201k Linked to Bitget Theft
Circle, a financial technology company, has frozen $201,000 in cryptocurrency linked to the Bitget theft. The funds are stranded between the Noble and Ethereum blockchains after Circle coordinated with independent investigator Tanuki42.
The wallet attempted to move the assets using Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), but reached the system's quota and entered a pending state. Circle blacklisted the target address before the quota reset, preventing the transfer from completing.
This action follows Circle's earlier freeze of $318,000 linked to the Bitget breach. The majority of the affected assets remained in Ether (ETH), which stablecoin issuers cannot block. Bitget's cold wallets were unaffected, and its User Protection Fund held more than $464 million.
