Circle Stock Slumps After Senate Rejects CLARITY Act
Circle Internet Group's (NYSE:CRCL) stock fell on Wednesday, alongside other crypto-linked equities, as Bitcoin hovered near $75,000.
The decline followed the U.S. Senate's vote against advancing the CLARITY Act, which aimed to provide a comprehensive regulatory framework for the digital asset industry.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse criticized Senate Democrats for the failure, stating that 'this one stings' after significant lobbying efforts from the industry.
The bill's ethics provisions were insufficient regarding President Donald Trump's crypto interests, opposition centered on. As a result, regulation may shift toward rulemaking by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), led by Chair Paul Atkins, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), led by Chair Michael Selig.
In other news, Circle announced the public mainnet launch of Arc, a Layer 1 blockchain purpose-built for financial markets. The new platform features native integration with USDC, which has over $74 billion in circulation and launches with founding validators including BlackRock, Mastercard and Visa.
