Citi and Coinbase Team Up on Stablecoin Payments Integration

Share

Citigroup has partnered with Coinbase to allow its institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments. The integration will be through Coinbase Payments, which will automatically convert the digital tokens into fiat currency. Citi will settle the funds as the bank of record, meaning merchants won't have to hold or manage crypto themselves.

The aim is to make it easier for businesses to accept cryptocurrency payments without having to directly interact with the underlying assets. This move by Citigroup and Coinbase marks a significant step towards mainstream acceptance of stablecoins in the financial industry.

Stablecoins are digital tokens that are pegged to the value of a fiat currency, such as the US dollar. They are often used for cross-border transactions and can provide greater flexibility and efficiency compared to traditional payment methods.
