CLARITY Act Fails Senate Vote Amid Concerns Over Trump's Crypto Involvement
Maxine Waters, ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, criticized the CLARITY Act after it failed to advance in a Senate procedural vote. The bill, which aimed to regulate the crypto market structure, was met with opposition due to concerns about President Trump's involvement in crypto-related financial activities.
Waters argued that the legislation did not address her concerns about Trump's 'overt, pernicious, and dangerous corruption' in the crypto space. She stated that any legislation without addressing these issues would only serve to 'validate and condone his worst actions.'
The CLARITY Act failed to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 3633, falling short of the 60-vote threshold required to advance the bill. This setback has left the status of broader crypto market structure legislation unresolved for the remainder of 2026.
