Clarity Act Gains Police Endorsement Amid Ongoing Debates

The Clarity Act has gained another key endorsement as it nears a crucial deadline for passage before Congress's August recess. The Major Cities Chiefs Association, which represents police chiefs from major US cities, expressed its support for the bill in a letter posted on X by Semafor White House reporter Eleanor Mueller.

The association praised the bill's updated provisions, including a new title with additional law enforcement powers to combat financial crimes involving digital assets. This adds to previous endorsements from the National Fraternal Order of Police and Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, who sent suggested changes to the bill earlier this week.

However, not everyone is pleased with the current draft of the Clarity Act. A group of Democrats criticized the legislation last week, stating it falls short in its current form. The banking lobby has also raised concerns over stablecoin yield and ethics surrounding government officials' crypto business interests, which have been linked to President Trump's family.

The bill aims to create a regulatory framework for the US cryptocurrency market but remains in limbo due to disagreements over its provisions. Republicans are trying to secure bipartisan support this week to advance the legislation, which has already cleared the House of Representatives with strong bipartisan backing last year.
