CLARITY Act Heads for Crucial Senate Vote Amid Optimism
The CLARITY Act is set for a Senate vote on September 15 at 2 p.m. ET, and Republican advocates are optimistic about its prospects.
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) and Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) emphasized the need for comprehensive U.S. crypto market structure legislation to keep digital-asset innovation and investment in the United States.
Lummis noted that lawmakers spent much of the past year negotiating with Democrats, combining provisions, and resolving disagreements, expanding the bill from fewer than 300 pages to more than 600 pages.
Scott expressed confidence that there's a 'really good shot' at progress in September, arguing that forcing a vote requires lawmakers to take positions rather than continue negotiating indefinitely. He also stressed that crypto-friendly action from the SEC and CFTC isn't a substitute for legislation and warned that policy reversals can occur when administrations change.
