CLARITY Act Stablecoin Yield Draft Delayed Amid Banking Committee Markup Uncertainty
The CLARITY Act's stablecoin yield draft has been delayed due to a need for clarity on an upcoming Banking Committee markup, according to Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.). This is not the first delay in the bill, which was originally set to pass by the end of 2025 but has missed its target.
The current draft retains language banning rewards on idle stablecoin balances held in accounts, while permitting yield generated through transactional activity. The legislative team continues to meet with bank trade associations and crypto companies to revise the text.
Tillis is working with Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) to resolve the stablecoin yield dispute, which has become the most contentious issue blocking the bill's passage. The White House has convened multiple closed-door meetings since the start of the year to broker a compromise, but no agreement has been reached.
