CLARITY Act Stalls in Senate Amid Trump Opposition and Partisan Politics
US Senate bill CLARITY Act failed to advance after a narrow defeat in the cloture motion, leaving U.S. crypto market regulation in its current fragmented state. Senator Cynthia Lummis attributed the failure of the bill to partisan politics and opposition from President Donald Trump rather than the actual content of the bill.
The bill aimed to establish a clear regulatory framework for digital assets by dividing oversight between the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, but it was unable to overcome Democratic opposition. The vote saw all Democrats and four Republicans voting against the measure, resulting in a 49-50 defeat.
Market perceptions have been influenced by this development, with current pricing indicating that participants view the chances of the act being signed into law as diminished. The market odds for the act to be signed by January 1, 2027, have decreased to 5.8%, down from 6% just 24 hours ago and 7% a week ago.
