Riot Platforms Repays $200M Loan Ahead of Schedule Amid AI Infrastructure Push
Riot Platforms has settled its $200 million secured lending agreement with Coinbase Credit, eliminating a significant financial obligation from its balance sheet. The early repayment of the loan, which was valued at approximately $200 million, freed up pledged collateral including Bitcoin, USDC stablecoin, and fiat currency stored with Coinbase Custody Trust Company.
The company faced no prepayment penalties or early exit charges for closing the facility ahead of schedule. This financial maneuver coincides with Riot's aggressive pivot toward AI-focused data center infrastructure, highlighted by a massive 20-year contract worth approximately $9 billion with Anthropic.
Riot's most recent quarterly report for Q1 2026 recorded aggregate revenue of $167.2 million, with data center services alone accounting for $33.2 million. This represents meaningful revenue generation from a business vertical that was essentially nonexistent just 24 months prior.
