Clearpool Announces CLEAR Token and XRP Ledger Private Credit Plans
Clearpool is planning a significant overhaul of its tokenomics and a new venture into private credit lending on the XRP Ledger. The protocol aims to replace its existing CPOOL token with a new CLEAR token and establish itself as the go-to platform for private credit on the XRP Ledger, akin to Morpho's role in other ecosystems.
The initiative builds on a fund announced on August 20, 2026, involving Ripple, Cicada Partners, and Clearpool. This institutional credit fund will lend RLUSD, Ripple's dollar stablecoin, to fintech and payments companies for working capital, all settled on the XRP Ledger. Clearpool emphasizes that this is the first institutional credit product using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.
Clearpool will operate the lending infrastructure, while Cicada Partners will manage the fund and source borrowers. Ripple, as a limited partner, will provide capital but will not act as a borrower or lender of record. The fund's size and Ripple's commitment remain undisclosed.
The transition to CLEAR involves a 1:1 conversion for existing CPOOL holders, who will receive 70% of the new CLEAR supply. The remaining 30% will be allocated to treasury, partnerships, ecosystem incentives, and contributors, each with specific vesting terms. The new token supply starts at 1.125 billion CLEAR, compared to the original 1 billion CPOOL.
However, the project's success hinges on the approval of two ledger amendments, XLS-65 and XLS-66, which are still under voting. As of late August, support was around 34% to 37%, well below the required 80% threshold. The governance vote for the token migration opened on September 25 and ran for one week.
Clearpool is currently testing on the XRP Ledger Devnet, with no confirmed dates for mainnet activation or product launch. The existing EVM private credit marketplace will continue to operate while the team works on expanding the curator model to Ethereum and other chains.
