CME Group Adds Uniswap Futures Amid Institutional Demand
CME Group has announced it will launch Uniswap (UNI) futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. This marks the first time a major decentralized exchange token joins the same regulated futures rail used for Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP.
The new contracts will be available in both standard-sized and micro sizes, with the latter designed to give smaller traders more flexibility. The announcement follows a recent statement from CME Group's Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products, Giovanni Vicioso, who explained that participants need broader, regulated tools to navigate price risk across high-liquidity altcoin markets.
This move is seen as a significant milestone for DeFi's relationship with traditional regulated markets. Institutional players have historically had limited options for gaining exposure to DeFi-native tokens compared to Layer 1 blockchain assets, and this launch effectively closes that gap.
