Coinbase Brings Pokémon Card Collecting to Mobile Users with Blockchain-Powered Ripping Feature

Share

Coinbase is preparing to launch a new feature that will allow its users to 'rip' Pokémon card packs on their mobile devices. The feature, which was teased by Coinbase on X, will involve blockchain technology and will enable users to store or ship the cards they collect.

The new feature comes as Pokémon has released its 30th Celebration trading card set to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary. Each pack pulled through the new feature will be backed by a physical card that can be stored digitally or shipped to collectors.

Coinbase hinted in its announcement that it is building on existing technology, such as GameStop's Power Packs, which allow users to open digital packs containing physical trading cards that can be vaulted or shipped. However, the key difference between Coinbase and other pack outlets will be its built-in crypto infrastructure.

The company also teased that there may be more features or products coming soon to the platform beyond the Pokémon card ripping feature.
