Coinbase Canada Pushes for Comprehensive Crypto Regulations

Share

Coinbase Canada's new country director and CEO Eric Richmond is advocating for more comprehensive regulation of cryptocurrencies in Canada.

Richmond believes that a patchwork of provincial and territorial securities regulators has made operating in the crypto space difficult for both businesses and authorities alike, leading to costly compliance efforts and duplicated regulatory work.

Coinbase, which already offers institutional and retail customers a range of financial products, including traditional equities, derivatives, prediction markets, blockchain-based lending and borrowing, and its Visa debit card, is planning to expand its services in Canada under Richmond's leadership.
