Coinbase has secured approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to launch its derivatives clearing organization (DCO), Coinbase Clearing. This development marks the first operational USDC-native clearinghouse for capital markets.

The new clearinghouse integrates USDC collateral and features 24/7 settlement, designed with always-on markets in mind as the industry shifts towards extended trading and settlement models.

Coinbase Clearing completes the firm's stack of CFTC-regulated derivatives infrastructure, which includes Coinbase Financial Markets, a futures commission merchant (FCM), and its derivatives exchange, a designated contract market (DCM).

According to Molly Abraham, general counsel at Coinbase, 'Today's CFTC approval completes Coinbase's end-to-end derivatives infrastructure, enabling us to bring more regulated derivatives products to market with native USDC collateral and 24/7 settlement.'
