Coinbase Clears Hurdle with Own Derivatives Clearinghouse
Coinbase has secured CFTC approval for its own derivatives clearinghouse, adding the clearing layer to its U.S. derivatives business that already spans brokerage and exchange infrastructure.
The company can now take eligible derivatives from customer access through execution and clearing, covering fully collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps.
Coinbase's new clearinghouse, Coinbase Clearing LLC, is built around USDC collateral and continuous settlement, giving the stablecoin a role inside regulated derivatives infrastructure.
The approval fills a specific gap in Coinbase's U.S. derivatives infrastructure, which now spans three layers: customer access → FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) → DCM (Designated Contract Market) → DCO (Derivatives Clearing Organization).
