Coinbase Gains Regulatory Clout with CFTC-Approved Derivatives Clearing House

Share

Coinbase has received approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to create Coinbase Clearing LLC, a regulated clearing house for derivatives in the United States.

The CFTC approved the registration of Coinbase Clearing LLC as a derivatives clearing organization on September 28, 2026, enabling the firm to facilitate clearing of fully collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps.

This new clearing division complements Coinbase's existing regulated derivatives exchange, Coinbase Derivatives LLC, and its futures commission merchant, Coinbase Financial Markets Inc. The company now has full control over another aspect of its derivatives market in the United States.
