Coinbase Institutional Sees Another Large Bitcoin Transfer
A significant Bitcoin transfer has taken place on Coinbase Institutional, with 1,700 BTC valued at approximately $142 million being moved to an unknown wallet. This transaction was flagged by blockchain tracker Whale Alert and occurred after a series of other large transfers through the platform.
In June, a similar transfer of 2,258 BTC worth around $132 million took place, while in August, 659 BTC valued at approximately $52 million left Coinbase Institutional. Just days prior to this latest transfer, an outflow of 826 BTC, around $70 million, was recorded.
Coinbase Institutional is a custody and trading platform specifically designed for heavyweight clients such as hedge funds, family offices, and spot Bitcoin ETF issuers who require regulated custodians to hold their underlying assets.
The implied price per Bitcoin in this latest transfer works out to roughly $83,500, providing a useful data point on where institutional players are comfortable transacting at scale. The rise of spot Bitcoin ETFs has made Coinbase Institutional an important node in crypto's financial plumbing, carrying implicit information about how the biggest players in traditional finance position around Bitcoin.
