Coinbase Launches Crypto Price Prediction Markets in 2026
Coinbase has launched a new feature allowing US users to bet on short-term price movements of major cryptocurrencies, starting on October 6, 2026. The platform will offer contracts on assets like Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and BNB, with time frames as brief as 15 minutes. Users can wager on whether these assets will rise or fall within the selected window, with a flat payout of $1 for correct predictions and $0 for incorrect ones.
These binary contracts are integrated directly into Coinbase's trading app, appearing alongside the standard buy and sell buttons. Funding can be done using either USD or the USDC stablecoin, providing flexibility for traders. The service operates under Coinbase Financial Markets, a CFTC-regulated entity and member of the National Futures Association, ensuring compliance with US regulations. However, access is limited, with Nevada excluded and availability varying by state.
This launch is part of Coinbase's broader strategy to become an 'everything exchange,' combining spot trading, derivatives, and now short-term prediction markets in one platform. The earlier version of this feature, launched on December 17, 2025, focused on sports and politics and was powered by Kalshi. The new crypto-focused contracts extend this concept to price movements in digital assets.
The fast-paced nature of these contracts aims to increase user engagement by encouraging frequent app usage. However, it also raises concerns about overtrading, as the binary payout structure leaves no room for partial credit. While Coinbase has not released projections for user adoption or trading volume, the success of this feature will likely be measured by these metrics in future reporting periods.
