Coinbase Launches Prediction Market for Vegas vs Seattle Spread
Coinbase has launched a new prediction market allowing users to bet on the outcome of the third period spread between the Vegas and Seattle teams. The market, which expires on October 9, 2026, lets traders buy contracts priced at $0.769, reflecting the market's odds of the event occurring.
To participate, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding with Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), the regulated derivatives entity. This includes identity verification and providing basic income or net worth details. Once approved, traders can use cash from their main Coinbase account to trade.
The prediction market operates on a simple principle: each contract pays $1 if the event happens and $0 if it does not. Traders can buy "Yes" if they believe the event will occur or "No" if they think it will not. Payouts are based on the final outcome determined by an independent, regulated exchange using a stated "source of truth."
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets are offered outside the UK and are not an invitation to buy any particular asset. The company also notes that past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
