Coinbase Limits WMTX-USD Trading to Prevent Wild Price Swings
Coinbase has restricted trading for the WMTX-USD pair to limit-only mode on both its Exchange and Advanced platforms.
This means traders can only place limit orders, rather than market orders which execute immediately at whatever price is available. Limit orders allow traders to specify an exact price they're willing to buy or sell at, preventing wild price swings when liquidity is low.
Coinbase has used this mechanism before with lower-volume pairs like GRASS-USD and BLUECHIP-USD. The exchange typically introduces new trading pairs in phases: deposits open first, then limit-only trading starts, followed by full trading once the order book has sufficient depth to absorb market orders without excessive slippage.
The WMTX token powers World Mobile Chain, a project building a decentralized mobile network targeting underserved regions. Coinbase added WMTX to its listing roadmap in November 2025 and spot trading for the pair launched shortly after.
