Coinbase Losses Drop 21% as Crypto Market Slumps

Share

Coinbase reported its third consecutive quarterly loss under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Q2 2026, totaling $359.5 million. However, roughly 58% of this loss, or $209.5 million, was attributed to an unrealized markdown on crypto assets the company holds for investment.

This means that even without the mark-to-market effect of falling crypto prices, Coinbase would have still posted a loss. Adjusted EBITDA, which strips out non-cash swings, stayed positive at $208 million, marking its 14th consecutive profitable quarter on this measure.

The company's core business, transaction revenue, fell 21% quarter-over-quarter to $599 million, driven by a 25% drop in industry-wide crypto spot trading volume and an 11% decline in total crypto market capitalization during the quarter.
