Coinbase Premium Index Slumps to One-Month Low as Institutions Sell

The Coinbase Premium Index has reached its lowest level in roughly a month, indicating that US demand for Bitcoin is weaker than international demand. The index measures the price difference between Bitcoin on Coinbase and global venues like Binance, with a negative reading suggesting that American sellers are more aggressive than overseas buyers.

At -0.0205%, the current streak of seven consecutive days in negative territory is the worst sustained reading since August 24. Historically, extended stretches of negative premium have coincided with periods when US institutions were net sellers or inactive.

The Coinbase Premium Index reflects institutional-grade activity on Coinbase, which serves as the primary on-ramp and custodian for most US spot Bitcoin ETFs. A shift back toward zero or into positive territory would be a clear signal that US institutions are regaining confidence in Coinbase Bitcoin demand.
