Coinbase Restores Coinbase Wallet Name, Emphasizes Multichain Trading
Coinbase has restored its Coinbase Wallet name after about a year of operating under the Base App moniker. The self-custodial product now focuses on multichain trading, perpetual futures, prediction markets, and tokenized stocks.
According to Ryan Kass, head of Coinbase Wallet product, the wallet will serve as a testing ground for assets unavailable on Coinbase's centralized exchange. It currently supports 10 networks, including Robinhood Chain and Monad, with more chains planned for addition in the future.
The app features over 290 perpetual markets powered by Hyperliquid, offering users leverage of up to 50x on certain contracts. Trading takes place onchain, allowing users to manage positions through the Coinbase interface without holding the underlying asset.
Coinbase has retained trading and financial features developed during the Base App period, including messaging and other functions. However, social features introduced during that time have been de-emphasized in favor of a more focused approach to financial products.
