Coinbase Soars as SEC Clears Path for Tokenized Stocks
Coinbase stock surged 11.9% in afternoon trading today after the SEC unveiled a five-year 'Innovation Exemption' late Thursday.
The order, which took effect immediately, establishes the first formal federal pathway for permissioned blockchain venues to list and trade tokenized representations of publicly traded U.S. stocks.
This exemption plays directly into Coinbase's existing infrastructure and its ambition to become an 'Everything Exchange' spanning spot crypto, derivatives, stablecoins, and now tokenized equities.
Morgan Stanley initiated coverage on Coinbase today with an Equal Weight rating but a notably bullish $250 price target, framing the company as a key access and infrastructure provider in the regulated financial system.
Goldman Sachs and Needham also raised their price targets into the $200-plus range, pushing the Wall Street analyst consensus average to around $200 with an overweight tilt.
