Coinbase Stock Rebounds as Bitcoin Gains Fuel Optimism for Crypto Rules
Coinbase's stock price rebounded by 10.3% to $191.87 on Friday, following a 5.8% gain in Bitcoin and a 7.4% increase in Circle Internet Group shares. This move is largely seen as a recovery from the recent losses, rather than a new post-vote high.
According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, he now assumes that the CLARITY Act is dead after its failure to advance in the Senate. He sees an alternative route through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a way to achieve clearer U.S. crypto rules.
However, this distinction matters for shareholders, as agency rules are narrower and easier to reverse than Congressional legislation. Regulators may be able to act sooner, but their decisions can also be reversed by future administrations or courts.
